ArchiesLaw.com is a new site established specifically to promote early assessment and intervention for all children before they reach Grade 1. The ‘Law’ is that there should be mandatory assessment of vision (not just ‘eyesight’) for all children, for many good reasons – not the least of which is to ensure we respect their basic rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The site is not pushing for the enacting of a new law, per se, but a ‘rule’ or general agreement among Alberta schools that assessment of vision take place before children enter Grade 1 for ALL children.
The goal of the site: One day, in the very near future, we will look back at the fact that we had NOT insisted on assessment and management of visual impediments in the early years, and wonder why we didn’t always do this.
The site is useful, containing some valuable information and informative movies. This is not a ‘glossing over’ of the issue, but any means. Have a look: ArchiesLaw.com
